Deep Dental Cleaning for Children and Teens

A deep cleaning removes plaque and tartar from below the gumline when a regular cleaning is not enough to calm irritated gums.

What is a deep cleaning

A deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing, cleans the tooth surfaces and roots beneath the gumline and smooths them so the gums can heal.

When is it needed

A deep cleaning may be recommended when there is heavy tartar buildup, red, swollen or bleeding gums, or signs of gum disease.

What to expect

The cleaning is done carefully and gently, comfort options are discussed beforehand, and we check how the gums are healing at a follow-up visit.

Caring for gums at home

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily and keep regular checkups to help keep gums healthy.
